Fulfilling a dream at Roy Newton Furniture – Fitted bedrooms in Cannock and Staffordshire.

A first blog to introduce you to our business, who we are and what we do.

Who we are

Roy Newton Furniture is run and owned by Roy himself. Roy started off working in the furniture trade as a bench hand at the age of 20 following in his dad’s footsteps. After many years on the manufacturing side of the furniture trade, he decided that he wanted to branch out and trained for two years as a fitter. He spent 8 years as a bedroom fitter before deciding that he wanted to fulfil his dream of owning his own manufacturing company. We started to look into local units that would be suitable. When a space became available on the Cannock Enterprise Centre we decided it was a sign and went for it and Roy Newton Furniture was born!

We have now been on the current site for three years and in this time we have gone from strength to strength. A true family business, Roy’s brother David works with us full time both in the factory and on-site during fitting. His dad, Brian, works with us part time in the factory manufacturing the furniture.

I am Roy’s wife, Naomi and joined the business on a permanent basis at the start of July after working behind the scenes since the beginning. I have a teaching background so am enjoying making sure everyone and everything is organised and am in charge of the office side of business. Part of my role will also be updating the blog on a regular basis.

We believe we have a unique advantage over many other local furniture companies, in that Roy has a wealth of experience right from the factory floor through to the fitting of the finished bedroom. Having an overview of the whole process means he is very well placed to aid customers in deciding what they want and also knowing what looks good and will work practically in a bedroom.

What we do

Over the past three years we have fitted many bespoke bedrooms in Cannock, Staffordshire and throughout the Midlands. Although in the main we work with customers within a 20 mile radius of Cannock, we do travel further for larger projects.

In order to give a flavour of the range of fitted furniture we can provide, here are some examples of jobs we have completed recently and the areas we cover:

We have manufactured and fitted in recent months:

Made-to-measure wardrobes in Cannock;

Cupboards around a chimney breast in Lichfield;

Sliding door systems in Brownhills;

Angled wardrobes in Abbotts Bromley;

Bespoke beds in Lichfield and Rugeley;

Hotel style headboards in Burntwood;

A boot room in Stafford.

Roy Newton Furniture is mainly a bedroom company but we are very willing to take on more unusual projects when requested. Recent challenges have included a dinette on a narrowboat, occasional tables, games room bar display and our recent favourite, a unit for displaying gin with LED backlighting!

We are often asked what the process is when ordering a bedroom from us, so here is a brief overview.

Once you have contacted us we will book in a mutually convenient time for Roy to come and see you. We understand that many of our customers work full time, so evening and weekend appointments are generally available if that suits you better. It is important to note that Roy is not a salesman and will therefore not be using any pressure sales tactics. He will simply discuss what you are looking for, measure up, advise you if necessary and then come away to work out the price.

He will then send you a quote including a CAD drawing of your proposed room, usually via email, for you to read in your own time. The quote is valid for two months from the date you receive it, which gives plenty of time to reach a decision without feeling rushed. It is useful if you can just confirm receipt of the quote so we know it has reached you and then the ball is in your court. We will not contact you again unless you contact us. We hate pushy salesmen as much as anyone!!

If you decide to go ahead then Roy will come back out and see you for a second visit, where he will check measurements, discuss details and pencil in a date for fitting. Our lead time is usually around six weeks but this can vary dependent on the time of year. If you want your furniture quickly the summer is usually a quieter time to get in touch (July and August) and the run up to Christmas is usually very busy with longer lead times!

Once confirmed, the materials for your furniture are then ordered from our supplier. When they have been delivered to us your bedroom will be then manufactured in our factory. Having our own workshop means that we have complete control over the manufacturing process and can check that the quality meets our high standards at every stage.

We will contact you again to confirm the fitting date still stands and finalise any arrangements.

Roy will then fit your furniture, often with David his brother assisting. On occasions, especially on a larger job, Roy sometimes works with another local fitter. This ensures the bedroom or bedrooms are fitted as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the customer.

Customer Service

As a small company, customer satisfaction is everything. We constantly strive to make sure our customers have the best experience when dealing with us. We all know how annoying it is when companies don’t return messages or don’t turn up when they say they will. If you contact us we will endeavour to respond to you as quickly as we can, usually the same day if at all possible.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our furniture. Manufacturing on site means we have complete control over the manufacturing process. All our full carcass wardrobes have 8mm backs and use blum fixings and drawer runners (where the design allows) and blumotion integrated soft close hinges which are of the highest standard. Our customers often comment on the sturdiness and quality of our furniture; this is not flatpack :).

We have been a member of the check-a-trade website from the start. This allows our customers to leave us a true and honest review that is independently verified by the site. You can be assured that any review you read on the site is one of our past happy customers. We are really proud to have at the time of writing a 9.97 rating. We work hard to keep this standard; trying our best to ensure every customer is 100% happy with their new bedroom. We often get previous customers contacting us for second or third bedrooms and frequently get new leads through recommendations.

Read some of our reviews at www.checkatrade.com/RoyNewtonFurniture

We are also really pleased to announce that we are joining the ‘Best of Cannock’ very shortly and looking forward to fitting more bedrooms in the Cannock area.

So I hope this blog has given any potential or current customers an insight into our business. Don’t hesitate to get in contact if you would like a quote or any further information.
